Floyd Fest

Floyd Fest was a leader in waste diversion before we joined the team in 2019. Since then we’ve been able to help collect and sort material with a smaller team and therefore a smaller budget.

Floyd Fest is a 5-day event in Floyd, Virginia in late July. Attendees are split between those who camp on-site and those who commute during the day. We are able to divert waste from in the festival grounds and from the campgrounds.

Recycling!

Recycling at Floyd Fest if source separated, meaning cardboard, glass, plastic, and cans all must be collected separately. Our system is perfect for this type of recycling system. We sort on a conveyor belt, which allows us to efficiently sort material into any necessary categories.

Compost!

Floyd fest is one of our most successful events for composting. In 2022 we were able to divert 5 tons of food scraps and compostable serviceware from the landfill. All food vendors are on board, collecting their food scraps for us on a massive scale, and serving food only on and with compostable serviceware.

Reuse!

Floyd Fest encourages reuse by serving drinks only in reusable cups. They also offer several water refill stations so everyone can refill water bottles or their drink cups with clean water.

The Volunteer Difference

Volunteers at FloydFest make all the difference. Teams from between 5-15 people at a time help us collect material, litter sweep, and sort material both in-ground and in the campground. Volunteers allow our paid team to be smaller and decrease the overall cost of our service for the event organizers.

Despite the odd nature of the work, volunteers have a great time working with us. They note that the team energy, uniqueness of the work, and the satisfaction of seeing a clean field or a well-sorted pile of compost or recycling makes the volunteer shift great!
